Reporting and Insight Specialist
Salary: £42,123 - £46,579 | Grade: Level 8 | Contract: Permanent, full time | Location: Civic Centre Southend (Hybrid) | Closing date: 23rd October 2026
Turn data into decisions that improve residents' lives
Are you the person who can't look at a spreadsheet without seeing the dashboard it should be? At South Essex Homes, your Power BI skills will help managers spot trends in repairs, complaints and compliance before they become problems, and show whether the changes we make are working for residents.
We're moving our reporting from BOXI to Power BI and building a new Data Management & Insight team to lead the way. As our Reporting & Insight Specialist, you'll be at the heart of that change, designing and delivering the reports and dashboards the whole organisation relies on.
What you'll do
- Build great Power BI reporting. Design, develop and maintain dashboards and reports that are accurate, accessible and easy to use.
- Lead the move from BOXI. Help migrate our reporting to Power BI and set the standards and inventory that keep it sustainable.
- Find the story in the data. Analyse trends, risks and opportunities across services, and help South Essex Homes move from counting activity to understanding outcomes.
- Own trusted datasets. Develop and validate datasets using 3C Data Logic, applying agreed definitions and documenting calculations and assumptions.
- Shape KPIs. Develop and maintain KPI frameworks and performance measures used across the organisation.
- Work with people, not just numbers. Turn managers' questions into practical reporting, explain insight clearly, and support colleagues to use self-service reporting.
What you'll bring
- Hands-on experience developing Power BI dashboards and reports.
- Experience of consolidating and analysing data from multiple sources and producing KPI and performance reporting that answers critical questions.
- Advanced analytical skills and a strong grasp of data quality and BI principles.
- The ability to challenge the status quo, manage change and embed new ways of working with information.
- The ability to explain technical ideas to non-technical audiences.
- Close attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Appreciation of good governance of data and reports.
- A degree or equivalent relevant experience. Relevant qualifications and a desire to continue learning.
It would be great if you also have: housing sector experience and knowledge of housing management systems; experience migrating reporting platforms; SQL or database querying skills; 3C Data Logic skills or experience of using an equivalent data quality management tool; or data modelling experience.
